Roger, I don’t think it is a case of not being good at marketing – I think your work speaks for itself. It is actually a case of finding the right format. I know what you mean about the forum thing v the blog thing. I have only been on tribe for a short time so I can only comment about what I have seen so far. I prefer to work on the presentation on the profile page including the blog but then, if I don’t do the forum thing, then the profile page can go unnoticed. I think it is a matter of a balanced approach: a bit of this and a bit of that but still keep a vision of what your priority is. I see the forums as places to have virtual meetings. You can discuss something, sort through ideas and then return to the profile page and try what suits best and then carry that through onto your website or whatever forum is your main forum.

Where I live there are several business organizations that have seminars, luncheons and so on for marketing etc. I have attended quite a few plus I see how other dancers promote themselves or have agents that do that for them. The general public react to vision first and then they usually want a few facts and that’s about it. I think you have to decide what it is you want to be seen as doing and who your best audience is. When you are well received in one place that then goes with you to the next place. That next place of course could be quite different to the original, but by then you have confidence enough to concentrate and present yourself to that new audience in the best way as well. I hope this makes sense.

I see tribe as a tree with lots of branches. Some branches are really strong and supportive others are not but they are still part of the tree. If you make certain the trunk of the tree is in good shape, then the branches sort themselves. The trunk of course relies on the root system for its vitality and I see that as the training we have had to get where we are. If the root system is a bit fragile then you have to look around and find what it is you need to change that. From tribe I get artistic nourishment and I have a framework in which to place that artistic nourishment and that is a personal framework of choice.
